The story of the Lac Mégantic incident represents an important chapter in the modern era of risk management. On July 6, 2013, a runaway train composed of 72 tank cars transporting crude oil from North Dakota to the east coast derailed in the center of a town in rural Quebec. The resulting fire claimed 47 lives and destroyed the center of the community. The details will provide valuable lessons for attendees from several different sectors.
