School's out, but Firewise is in! Youth resources available on the website

Blog Post created by Michele Steinberg Employee on Jul 18, 2011

The newly updated Firewise website is loaded with great information for kids, their parents and teachers as well. While school may be out for the summer, you can find interactive games and quizzes that entertain as well as educate in the Educators section of the Firewise page.

The Curricula and Lesson Plan area features our own Fire Camp curricula for middle-schoolers, a Girl Scout Firewise Patch, and Project Learning Tree's primer for educators on wildland fire. The Natural Inquirer, a journal for middle school students, was created so that scientists can share their research with youth. Two issues available online are a fantastic basis for youth (and adults!) in wildland fire science made accessible and fun.

Games, quizzes and more are linked through this area of the site, and other youth-oriented sites let Sparky the Fire Dog or Smokey Bear lead kids through their discovery of fire science and fire safety.

Check it out, have some fun, and share the fascinating facts about wildfire with young folks in your life!
