Focusing on the damaging effects of today's home fires has been as important for the group as highlighting actual instances of sprinklers saving lives.

Exemplifying the latter, the South Carolina State Firefighters' Association, a coalition member, took to its blog to describe a recent sprinkler save in West Columbia. Upon hearing his home's water flow alarm, a sleeping occupant awoke to discover fire on the outside patio. He escaped the house before the arrival of the West Columbia Fire Department, but by the time they arrived, sprinklers had already doused most of the fire.

"Without the sprinklers, the fire would have most likely accelerated up the outside of the building, causing a major fire," Fire Chief Wyatt Coleman with the West Columbia Fire Department stated in the blog post.
