Preference will be given to teams which demonstrate leadership qualities, communication abilities, and training to the levels outlined in NFPA 472, Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents, and NFPA 473, Competencies for EMS Personnel Responding to Hazardous Materials Incidents.
The Western Wayne County (MI) Hazard Materials Response Team received the 2011 Warren E. Isman Educational Grant. The team comprises 45 members of mutual aid associations fire departments within the Detroit area and is responsible for responding to larger incidents with a response area that incorporates the entire state. This grant allowed five members of the team to attend the IAFC International Hazardous Materials Conference in Baltimore, MD.
