A small aircraft with engine trouble deployed an emergency parachute which saved the lives of the pilot and passenger. The incident occurred in the early afternoon of June 11 in Burlington, Massachusetts. The National Fire Protection Association’s Guide for Aircraft Rescue and Fire-Fighting Operations, NFPA 402 2013 edition, chapter 7, has a section on these ballistic parachutes. Incidentally, there is currently a Tentative Interim Amendment, #1154, on the ballistic parachute that is open for public comment with a closing date of July 18, 2014.
