NFPA's latest report on Structure Fires in Eating and Drinking Establishments states that U.S. fire departments responded to 8,410 fires in 2014; the most since 2002. These fires caused average annual losses of $165 million in direct property damage each year, and three out of five (61%) of these fires involved cooking equipment.
