NFPA 1: First Draft Report, we need your comments! #firecodefridays

Blog Post created by Kristin Bigda Employee on Mar 11, 2016

The development of NFPA codes and standards relies on you.  We seek input and comments from the public to help make our standards relevant, current, and in the forefront of the fire safety industry.

The First Draft Report of NFPA 1, Fire Code, is now available!  The First Draft Report serves as documentation of the Input Stage and is published for public review and comment. It contains a compilation of First Revisions, Public Input, Committee Input, Committee Statements, Ballot Results and Statements and a live First Draft of the document.

The public (you!) reviews the First Draft Report in order to submit Public Comments on the First Draft changes, leading to the next stage of the process.

You can access the First Draft report of NFPA 1 by visiting the NFPA 1 web page.  On the 'next edition' tab you will find direct access to the First Draft Report:Capture.JPGSome new and exciting topics are being reviewed by the Fire Code Technical Committee this cycle.  Upon reviewing the First Draft Report you will find revisions and proposed changes pertaining to:

  • food trucks and mobile cooking,
  • energy storage systems,
  • rubberized asphalt melters,
  • marijuana extraction and processing facilities,
  • communication and mass notification,
  • fire prevention inspection frequencies for existing occupancies,
  • rapid shutdown marking and roof access provisions for PV systems,
  • and more!

You have until May 16, 2016 to submit your comments.  Let us know if you need assistance, and spread the word! We look forward to hearing from you!
