40 Cups of CoffeeMany of you have responded to the “Join the NFPA Song Challenge.” Paul Hansen submitted “Blaze of Glory” by Bon Jovi, “Great Balls of Fire” by Jerry Lee Lewis and “Fire” by Arthur Brown. Vaughn Driscoll added “Fire” by the Ohio Players. Rachel Abram added “Fire Burning” by Sean Kingston and “Pat-a-Cake” the Mother Goose nursery rhyme.

Here are some more from NFPA’s Dr. John Hall – “Jambalaya” (on the Bayou) by Fats Domino, “Blackstrap Molasses” by Danny Kaye, Jimmy Durante, Groucho Marx and Jane Wyman (the youtube video says Ella Fitzgerald, but it is Jane Wyman), and "40 Cups of Coffee" by Ella Mae Morse.

It’s Fire Prevention Week and NFPA is encouraging everyone to support “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” It’s time to purchase your supply of coloring books and crayons to hand out at your open house or donate to a school. Don’t delay; get your order in today.

Now let’s keep the song challenge going. Dr. John Hall has given me lots of songs to share this Fire Prevention Week.

off campus fire safety checklistFire Prevention Week (FPW) is fast approaching but across the country, students are going off to college and moving into residence halls, dorms, off-campus housing, sororities and fraternities. For many of these students, it will be the first time they will be on their own, but with this independence, comes responsibility. It is important students realize they are now responsible for their own safety. The last fire safety education they may have had was back in grade school, but both on-campus and off-campus students should understand the risks of fire and know the preventive measures that could save their lives.

Educating students on what they can do to stay safe during the school year is important and often overlooked. College students living away from home should take a few minutes to make sure they are living in a fire-safe environment with our easy-to-read tip sheet on college campus safety.  For those living off-campus, our new off-campus safety checklist is a must have on moving day.

How do you reach out to the colleges in your community?  We’d love to hear from you.
