HeatingtipsTemperature have begun to dip in some parts of the country, which means that people are switching on furnaces and space heaters for the first time in months. In today’s edition of the Southeast Missourian, Cape Girardeau Fire Department officials are urging residents to take precautions when using furnaces, space heaters, fireplaces, and other heating devices. The importance of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms is also emphasized. The safety information section of the NFPA website offers tips, statistics, videos, and handouts on heating safety, escape planning, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, and other topics of concern this time of year, as well as information that is helpful throughout the year.
