It was a beautiful day on the Cape this past Saturday, the kind of day that entices you to spend every waking hour outside by the pool or at the beach, or in the backyard cooking up some great eats on the grill with friends and family.
To that end, NFPA staff and firefighters from the Dennis Fire & Rescue Department spent a couple of hours together with our friends from the Stop & Shop store in Dennis, MA talking to customers and handing out materials in an effort to raise awareness about healthy, safe grilling, and to help ensure everyone enjoys the summer and reduces their risk of grilling fires. In addition to all the great tips that were on hand, Beach Plum Chef of Cape Cod provided grilling demonstrations and handed out samples of some fantastic, healthy food for customers to try.
While nearly half of the people who grill do so year-round, July is the peak month for grill fires, followed by May, June and August. So this summer, do your part. Make fire safety a top priority for you and your family. Find out how at www.nfpa.org/grilling.
In the meantime, if you happen to be visiting Rhode Island this coming weekend (Saturday, July 18 to be exact), join us at our next great grilling fire safety event at the Stop & Shop in Narragansett. We hope to see you there!
