Sparky the Fire Dog® threw out the first pitch to the Toronto Blue Jays Ace at the recent kickoff of the “Swing into Summer Safety” campaign at Rogers Centre. The Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council and its sponsors, along with participating fire departments and the support of the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management partnered with the Toronto Blue Jays to bring the campaign to communities across Ontario.

“Swing into Summer Safety” is about educating and raising awareness among school-age children and their families about fire safety and other injury prevention. The annual campaign kicked off in five municipalities at the  same time as the kickoff at Rogers Centre. Sparky, Ace, Ontario Fire Marshal and Chief of Emergency Management Ross Nichols, and campaign spokesperson and Blue Jays pitcher, Marco Estrada, celebrated the success of the campaign.

Participating fire departments throughout the province hosted fire safety events in their communities, and handed out special safety edition baseball card decks, other great giveaways and safety information.
