Worcester National Night Out.jpg

Sparky Fire Hats were a big hit in Worcester, Massachusetts, at the city’s 21st
Annual National Night Out held on August 2. Worcester residents who participated
were asked to lock their doors, turn on their outdoor lights and spend the evening with neighbors, police, and other officials.

Lieutenant Annmarie Pickett (right), public education officer for the Worcester Fire Department and NFPA’s 2015 Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year oversaw a table of fire safety materials and said that she handed out 300 Fire Prevention Week goodie bags filled with Fire Prevention Week in a Box items.

She said that kids were thrilled when she wrote their names on fire hats for them in the space provided on the hats for personalization.

The national event is in its 33rd year with the National Association of Town Watch.

MARINA AND BOATING TIP SHEET IMAGE.JPG

Boating offers great opportunities for spending time with family and friends and is an
avenue for enjoying time outdoors in nature and in pursuit of water sports. But boaters,

swimmers, and marina staff must be aware of dangers in and around the water. NFPA’s

new tip sheet on Marina and Boating Safety outlines electrical hazards and carbon monoxide

risks unique to the boating world. This is but the latest tip sheet on outdoor safety. NFPA also

has tip sheets on campfires, grilling, lightning, and wildland fire safety and other outdoor topics.

#39 - Pontoon Parade.jpg

Who doesn't want to be in a pontoon boat parade??! Sparky got a chance to do so recently to complete bucket list #39 while up in Beaver Lake, New Hampshire. The pontoon was even outfitted with Beaver Lake Fire Department gear for the parade, and Sparky stayed extra safe by wearing his life jacket!

Sparky turned 65 on March 18, 2016, and we have been pulling out all the stops to help him celebrate! He’s created a bucket list of 65 activities and events he’d like to accomplish between his birthday and October. As he checks them off his list, we’ll make sure to share them with you. Some of Sparky’s wishes are pretty lofty, while others are just fun or a bit silly. Check in weekly to see where he goes and what he’s up to!
