Sparky Fire Hats were a big hit in Worcester, Massachusetts, at the city’s 21st
Annual National Night Out held on August 2. Worcester residents who participated
were asked to lock their doors, turn on their outdoor lights and spend the evening with neighbors, police, and other officials.
Lieutenant Annmarie Pickett (right), public education officer for the Worcester Fire Department and NFPA’s 2015 Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year oversaw a table of fire safety materials and said that she handed out 300 Fire Prevention Week goodie bags filled with Fire Prevention Week in a Box items.
She said that kids were thrilled when she wrote their names on fire hats for them in the space provided on the hats for personalization.
The national event is in its 33rd year with the National Association of Town Watch.
