Delawareans have plenty of opportunities to become familiar with this year’s Fire Prevention Week (FPW) theme: “Don’t Wait–Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years” and learn about the basic but essential elements of smoke alarm safety.

The kickoff FPW event was in July at an educational exhibit at the Delaware State Fair, continued with the Sharptown Firemen’s Carnival across the border in Maryland, where  Sparky the Fire Dog® made an appearance (see picture above) and hasn’t stopped since.

From now until the end of the month, open houses are being held at various fire stations, and  exhibits are planned at an “apple scrapple” festival, a military base, on the boardwalk overlooking a beach, and
at a Halloween event.
