NFPA and The Center for Campus Fire Safety (The Center) are pleased to announce the winners of the “What Kind of Cook are You in the Kitchen” Quiz/Sweepstakes! They are:

Robyn Tyman, University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas

Christina Urban, Montclair State University, Montclair, New Jersey

Congratulations, Robyn and Christina!

The Quiz, which ran September 1 – 30 in conjunction with Campus Fire Safety Month, targeted students currently enrolled in an institution of higher learning and was created to help raise awareness of cooking fires in on- and off-campus properties. More than 3,300 students took the quiz, which proved a great way to help students recognize unsafe cooking practices and learn appropriate ways to cook meals that will reduce the risk for injury and damage caused by fire. To participate, students answered an online, interactive eight-question quiz then entered their name and school information into a sweepstakes to win one of two $500 AmEx cards.

In addition to the student winners above, NFPA and The Center are also giving a huge shout out to Montclair State University’s Director of Fire Safety, Robert Ferrara. Nearly 950 Montclair students took the quiz, and Mr. Ferrara’s outstanding efforts to promote the campaign and raise the level of fire safety awareness on campus is truly inspiring. To thank Mr. Ferrara for all of his hard work, our partner, Domino’s, is sponsoring a free pizza party for him and 50 of his closest friends! Thanks Montclair State University and Mr. Ferrara for being a great champion of campus fire safety!
