Many NEC users are surprised when I tell them that the NEC does not really provide the information necessary for classifying a hazardous location in Chapter 5. You want to be sure that you or your electrical equipment is not in a hazardous location by mistake. This paper gives an overview of things to consider before you attempt to use the NEC to classify a location.
