I found out in a book that sprinklers should be installed in upright position in range pipes.what is the reason?
Upright sprinklers are used in dry pipe systems for several reasons. First, pipe scale and sediment tends to settle in the bottom of the sprinkler pipe. If pendent or sidewall sprinklers were used, they would be obstructed over time. Second, condensate and/or left over water after tripping and draining the system would also fill the pendent or sidewall sprinkler, causing it to freeze within the sprinkler when the temperature drops.
So the water does not set in the piping, once a system is tested, tripped or what ever you want to say,
Especially if the pipe is in or will be in freezing temp, so the pipe does not freeze and break
Not sure why many use the term 'sprinkler head' the correct term is simply: sprinkler.
