I have a company replacing head in a museum that are leaking because of age and are concerned this will cause upgrade to whole system nfpa13-2019 but should only be maintenance of system I would think
Would agree maintenance.
But will you define what you mean by “ upgrade”??
The testing requirements of Section 5.3.1 of the 2020 NFPA 25 for sprinklers will give your answers for what an aged sprinkler system needs to comply with. It is highly doubtful the entire sprinkler system would need to be replaced to a more current current standard. We had some health care institutions that were 50+ years that had not any major replacements of the piping system.
The piping inspections per Chapter 14 may also be warranted.
NFPA 25 is available to review online for free. Head over to List of NFPA Codes and Standards and click on “FREE ACCESS.”
