I have a client that has an ESFR designed sprinkler system for High Rack group A plastic storage. It was designed for this specific purpose. They are rearranging operations and will change the storage area into a plastic injection manufacturing area, which will require an Extra Hazard design system. The insurance company is recommending the system be redesigned to the EH system specifications.
An ESFR system needs a higher water demand and will put out more water in the event of a fire. can someone help me understand why my client is being asked to lower the sprinkler design to an EH system rather than allow them to keep the ESFR system in place?
