Fire alarm sound pressure levels

I recently went to a k-12 public school classroom and conducted some sound level measurements of the fire alarm. The measured levels were up to 106 dBA (5-10 feet away from the alarm at 5' off the floor). The teachers at this school are complaining of how load the alarm is. What I am wondering, does anyone know of a cheap alternative attenuation device that they can purchase to install over or to their fire alarms to reduce the sound levels, so that they do not have to purchase new alarms? I appreciate your help!
