Fire water pump motor, in our case, is connected to 6.6kV switchboard. Does NFPA allow use of magnetically held contactor for control of the pump!
The magnetically held contactor is expected to drop-off in case of transient voltage dips (or momentary loss of power).
I remember in my earlier days, we used to insist use of circuit breaker only (contactor not allowed) for Fire water pump.
The current NFPA20 does allow use of magnetically held contactors for Fire water pumps and doesn't indicate any safeguards against contactor dropping-off during transient voltage dips / momentary loss of power.
