A recommendation has been received from an insuring agency to bypass the automatic shut off (run cycle timer) on our fire pump controller. The wording of the recommendation is such "This automatic shutoff should be bypassed so that the fire pump must be stopped manually." This fire pump controller was installed in 2006 and is labeled as approved by UL, CSA, FM, and ULC. My question would then be, If I were to perform modifications to the original design would that not nullify the approvals based on design?
What are the NFPA recommendations on starting and stopping?
