Is there a good data base or search engine to find reputable contractors to perform arc flash hazard assessments?
I am not aware of any database or any other kind of list of reputable contractors to perform and arc flash hazard/risk assessment. I have had Hargrove Engineering do ours and was very satisfied. I have also had another contractor that has done some arc flash training that also do arc flash hazard/risk assessment. They are ESS (Electrical Safety Specialists). ESS is out of Kansas but travels as do many that do this type of work. Hargrove Engineering travels as well. Although they are local to us with one of their offices.
Also you can check with most any of the bigger electrical companies as they too will perform this for you such as Cooper Bussman, Rockwell International and Square D.
I have worked for several different contractors that do the assessments. THEY ARE NOT ALL EQUAL!
Your best bet is to get references.
Currently, I am working for AVO. They teach all kinds of electrical classes and have an engineering department.
Check out AVO website. They have been in the electrical safety field for over 50 years.
Roy Criswell of Criswell Engineering near (Springfield MO) has done an excellent job with the Arc-Flash studies but is retiring slowly and I have found too that an Arc-Flash isn't equal to another study, nor do they always comply with the requirements. Eventually I hope we all see accredited Engineers with the correct software, training, labels, and give certification and training to the needed workers. Since the studies are maximum of 5 years, the costs savings for many small municipal locations is to be able to continue varifying and updating the study, saving many dollars .
