Is there anyone requiring duct smoke detectors to be installed as alarm initiating devices instead of supervisory, and why?
It depends on the AHJ on how duct detectors are programmed into the alarm panel. The movement is to program them as supervisory as long as the AHU is interlocked to shutdown, but treating them as "fire" alarm was the norm so older systems are grandfathered due to cost burden on Building Owners in many municipalities.
No we use to,
But we do require them to be powered from the panel and be able to reset from the panel
