NEC Article 110.26A. In an industrial installation, there are 480 volt panels on the wall in corridors. The owner has had several incidents where forklifts have hit into these panels causing downtime and damage. In order to protect the panels, the owner has placed bollards out from the panels, wider than the panels, and placed a removable rail between the panels to protect them from forklift damage. The rails are removed every time the panels must be operated and / or maintained, thereby having clear space in front of the panels. They are not attached with bolts or screws, just sitting in a "U" configuration. When these rails are removed, there is clear space over 4 feet in front of each panel. Question is validity of the concept. Thanks.
