  1. Question – Can a 15a Duplex receptacle with the contact strap remaining in place be used to comply the Below code sections.
    1. I have a 20A circuit dedicated for the use of a range hood / Microwave (12.75A) as required in accordance with the 2005 NEC section 422.16(B4).  In accordance with 210.20 (B)(1) a single receptacle installed on an individual branch circuit shall have an ampere rating not less than that of the branch circuit. In accordance with 210.23 “branch circuits supplying two or more outlets or receptacles” Table 210.24 allows the use of 15a receptacle rating on a 20a circuit. 
    2. Article 100
      1. Receptacle – A receptacle is a contact device installed at the outlet for the connection of an attachment plug. A single receptacle is a single contact device with no other contact device on the same yoke. A multiple receptacle is two or more contact device on the same yoke. 
      2. Device – A unit of an electrical system that is intended to carry or control but not utilize electrical energy.
      3. Outlet – A point on the wiring system at which current is taken to supply utilization equipment.
