What code section is the head guard installation in NFPA 13 or handbook that recommends 7' or less to protect the fire sprinkler from damage?
just says shall be protected if subject to mechanical injury
6.2.8 2016 edition
Where did the 7' rule come from? If the fire sprinkler head is below 7' rule of thumb then it needs a guard?

New one to me, after 20 some years of dealing with sprinklers.
Now fire alarm wire below 7 feet has to be protected. Maybe mixing systems.
Or, just someone's rule they go by??
Would you than put one in every closet?? Normally 7 feet or less? Some ceiling levels are at seven feet, and if the fire sprinkler head hangs down, to you add a guard??
I normally see them in "in rack" sprinklers, gyms, mainly.
