Sub : Longitudinal sway bracing

Question asked by kvc1 on Aug 23, 2016

Dear sirs,

Longitudinal sway bracing shall be provided at the main piping individually supported within 6 in of the structure, measured between the top of the pipe and the point of attachment to the building structure even though the lateral sway bracing shall be permitted to be omitted when NFPA-13 9.3.5.5.10.2 is met.

It is understood that longitudinal sway bracing shall be installed at the top centerline of the pipe.

But considering installation space and post-anchoring, is it acceptable that the longitudinal sway bracing shall be installed at the side of pipe?

Please give us your advice and thank you.

Regards

J.S. Kim
