Limitations of 13R spaces outside of dwelling units

Question asked by on Sep 2, 2016

Section 6.4.7 in NFPA 13R states that spaces outside of dwelling units such as lobbies, foyers, corridors, hall and lounges and similar spaces may be protected by residential sprinklers. What about larger assembly spaces such as clubhouses or multi-purpose spaces that are being combined into multi-family apartment buildings?  Can these spaces fall under Section 6.4.7 of NFPA 13R, or should a NFPA 13 system be employed to protect these larger assembly areas?
