I work for a health care system that has over 40 clinics, some building are older and some are new. Some have sprinkler systems and some do not. What is the rule pertaining to sprinkler systems? Are they required or not?
You would first have to find out what code is adopted by each city the clinics are in.
The building code adopted governs when a fire sprinkler system is required.
If you are talking mainly doctors office type setting, the size of the building is more than likely not big enough to require a fire sprinkler system.
As far as older buildings, almost the same answer.
The normal is the building met the adopted code at the time it was built. So if no fire sprinkler was required at that time, none is required today, Unless a retrofit law comes into affect.
