We purchased a home that is 13 years old in Maryland and are in the process of trying to retrofit the home with a fire sprinkler system. The county, architect, and installation company is meeting with us at the residence monday as they are telling us we have to do everything by code. Now, I understand the liability here however, the house is 10,000 square feet and currently as they are recommending it would need to have over 130 sprinkler heads.
We went through a marked this week where all the cutting would need to happen and its beyond comprehensible. We are practically ripping open all the ceilings and many walls.
The sheer task of this retrofit along with the cost of the insulation and drywall work needing to be done would make this cost over $50k. We want to protect our family (we have two littles girls ages 1 and 2) but cannot take on the burden (both financially and construction wise) to do the system as if we were putting it in a new construction home.
Any insight here that can help us in our case with the county?
