In Residential housing can i installed EMT conduit in Mechanical room, instead of RGS conduit.
I'll throw in my opinion. as far as I understand article 358 (NFPA 70, 2014) there is not a specific prohibition listed for using EMT conduit in a mechanical room. There may be other factors involved, but I don't know what those might be. If your inspector is telling you that you cannot use EMT in the location in question, ask him or her to tell you why. Keep in mind that EMT cannot be used to support (the sole means of support) a luminaire (lighting fixture) and cannot be installed without additional protection in cinder concrete or cinder fill applications (though I honestly have never seen anyone try to do this in my career).
