Hi Guys, I have brand new Dry Powder Fire Extinguishers which are currently stocked in our warehouse for selling as we sell Fire Protection items. Is there a minimum period for stocking these items or may I say shelf life? Thanks in advance.
Call the manufacture.
How long to you anticipate them being there??
I ordered them as stock for selling I'm not sure how long will it take to be sold. I want to know if NFPA has a provision for duration of storing Dry Powder Extinguishers.
Would call the manufacture and ask the question.
Depending on the extinguisher, it may could set as long as 12 years, and than the container has to be hydro tested.
Dry chemical FX are to be recharged 6 years after the FX was manufactured. There is a manufacture date on the label of the FX.
Thank you very much!
I understand that at the end of March following the year of manufacture they are considered a year older than the indicated date on the extinguisher. Locations on the date of manufacture are on the label, on the bottom of the extinguisher and if it is a DOT designated extinguisher, the date of manufacture is embossed at the edge of the skirt area. Once the extinguisher becomes a year or more older than the date of manufacture the information to the purchaser should indicate when the internal maintenance and hydrostatic tests will be duel
Contact who you have purchased the extinguishers from and ask who does recharging and testing the brand that you have. It can be very difficult to locate a recharge agency for some brands.
Contact UL/FIRE EXTINGUISHER LISTING. Possibly in UL 299 there is an up to date definition of what is considered new and what is past new. It used to be that next years date could be sold as new as of October 1st of the year preceding the date on the extinguisher, and could be sold until the end of March of the year after the date. This was done to help with stock items and whether they would be new or past new.
