The consultant rejected our sprinkler pipe of ASTM A106 Gr.B as only ASTM A53 Gr.B is listed in the code. Is there anyway we can convince the consultant?
Piping not listed for sprinkler system must be manufactured in accordance to the standards mentioned in table 220.127.116.11. However, paragraph 18.104.22.168 states "...meet or exceed one of the standards in table 22.214.171.124 ...". If you could convince the consultant that the chemical and physical properties of the pipe are equal or better than ASTM A53, ASTM A135 or ASTM A795, then he might allow the use of ASTM A106.
I have use ASTM A106 on occasions where listed pipe and those conforming to the previously mentioned standards was unavailable. Never had any inconveniences and working with ASTM A106 was similar to the other pipes.
