When protecting Battery Rooms/UPS rooms, how effective are FM-200/Novec 1230 systems on suppressing fire? What would be the minimum design concentration required?
I do not recommend using clean agent system for a UPS/battery room. It has to be the sprinkler system with anti-corrosion coating. Clean agent system is meant for hazards that require the suppression medium to penetrate, for example computer racks. It is also meant to be used when water damage is not desired.
But when a battery room is on fire, the benefit of quenching the fire immediately outweighs the benefit of avoiding water damage.
The choice of using FM200 or NOVEC is just a designer's opinion. They are both effective suppression medium. Choose an agent where a local supplier can attend to it quickly in case, there a gas discharge happens.

The Flooding factor: 0.5494
Quantity of Gas (kg) = Total Volume (cubic meter) * 0.5494
