Do automatically controlled receptacles need to be factory marked?
2017 NEC Article 406.3(E) requires that automatically controlled receptacles be permanently marked with the proper symbol and with the word "controlled". The provision for the permanent marking and the required wording is new in the 2017 NEC.
It's not a factory requirement, but many of the reputable manufacturer's have the permanent marking incorporated into the design of the receptacle. If you have to provide the marking in the field, the requirements of 110.21(B) would apply. That means that the marking cannot be hand written on the receptacles.
