I had an insurer ask if the fire pumps at my location turn on within 60 seconds of flowing the most remote sprinkler system. Is this a requirement? Where is it located in the standards?
Does not sound right for a few reasons
The controller has to sense loss of pressure
Say a sprinkler head next to the pump room fuses, the city water pressure may be able to handle the flow, without the pump seeing much loss of pressure, and not kicking the pump on.
ask him for a standard section reference.
4.31.6 Pressure Switch Actuation. Pressure switch actuation at the low adjustment setting shall initiate the pump starting sequence (if the pump is not already in operation).
Agreed. Thank you. I know his intent was to not have a large drop in pressure that results in a water hammer. Maybe it is just "good sprinkler practice" vs standard.
