I can find nowhere in the 2015 NFPA 70E any information regarding use of AR goggles. However one company out there is selling an AR goggle with the specification stating "Designed to meet the performance specification of NFPA 70E @ 45 Cal/Cm2"
And if you use their AR goggle in combination with their AR balaclava and helmet they further claim "is the only known system that provides an alternative to the use of Bee Keeper style hoods for Electrical Arc Safety up to 45 Cal/Cm2."
However they then provide the disclaimer "WARNING: This product does not meet the face shield requirement of NFPA 70E."
So does anyone have any information or history regarding the use, limitations or prohibitions for using the AR goggle/balaclava combination to protect our workers from arc flashes?
And if we do use this equipment combination are we complying with NFPA 70E?
