elevator shunt trip what is this and is this required
It is designed to shut the power off to the elevator. And normally activated by heat and smoke detector at the top of the elevator shaft.
It is normally required if there is a fire sprinkler head required in the elevator shaft.
Depending on the building code for the city the elevator is in, it might be required.
Building codes are trying to get away from it, by building the elevator shaft non combustible and a few other design items.
NFPA 13 the fire sprinkler standard is also trying to get away from it.
If designing a new building, it depends on the building code used, if the shunt trip is required.
Are you asking about an existing building??
