Inverter duty motor on a VFD in a Class II Div 2 environment

Question asked by davereed on May 11, 2017

Concerning putting an inverter duty motor on a VFD in a Class II Div 2 environment.

What are the marking requirements?  It’s not clear in NFPA 70 and 652 how this motor should be marked.

  • Can the motor have a nameplate with freq ranges and tested temperature in the range?
  • Does the nameplate also need to be marked with Class and Div?
    • Can the motor/VFD just have a freq range and temp rating and qualify for Class II Div 2 environment?
