Save The Date! Our Combined Conference on March 21 – 23, 2018 is progressing well. We have the morning sessions filled for Wednesday and Thursday, and we also have a free preconference Tuesday afternoon scheduled. In the early fall we will be choosing the remaining classes. If you would like to present a class for the March 2018 Conference, or know of someone who would, submit a request at http://tinyurl.com/ja7hmq8
Our opening day keynote will be Gordon Graham. Many Chiefs and safety personnel will want to see him. Our second day keynote will be Frank DeAngelis. While the name may be unknown to most, he was the principal of Columbine High School at the time of the horrific shootings there. It is safe to say that this incident changed the way that police respond to active shooting incidents. Following Frank will be Michelle Gay. Following the tragic loss of her daughter, Josephine, in the Sandy Hook School tragedy, Michele co-founded Safe and Sound Schools as a national resource for school safety. She will share personal experiences and professional perspective on reunifying a school community in the aftermath of crisis.
If you would like to reserve your rooms at Para-a-Dice Hotel and Casio in East Peoria now, reservations can be made by calling 1-800-547-0711 and referencing code 0321FIR. They can also me be made by going to http://www.paradicecasino.com/groups and typing in 0321FIR.
If you go to the IFIA website, you will be able to register for the conference.
We are working with the Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board to have an NFPA 25 Summit on July 28. This will be held at the Empress, in Addison. With registrations over 100 already, get yours in now, so you won’t miss this event. Information is available on our website.
On August 20th, the IFIA will be staffing the fire safety tent at the Illinois State Fair. Annually, close to 1 million people come through the gate for this 10 day event. A large number of those people pass through the fire safety tent.
On September 12th, the IFIA will be hosting a full day seminar on Solar Panels. With more and more solar panels being installed on buildings, we think it appropriate that fire and building inspectors be more aware of what is involved in doing the jobs correctly and safely. See the IFIA website for registration information. Make sure you pass this on to your electrical inspectors and building officials. A plus for this class is that you will receive ICC Preferred Provider credits. If you have any ICC certifications, some Preferred Provider points are needed. This is a good class to obtain them.
