IMPACT OF WATER IN FIRE LIFT

Question asked by Mohamed Yasir on Aug 23, 2017

Dear All,

1. As per NFPA 101 2015 Edition Sections "7.14.5.2 and 7.14.5.3" and corresponding annex  "A.7.14.5.2 and A.7.14.5.3" states that sprinklers can be omitted from such spaces since its unsafe to discharge water in live electric equipment i.e Fire lift will work without shunt trip to cut of power in case of fire.

2. In addition, a pump is required by building codes in bottom of Fire Fighting lift to remove water from lift pit in case of water flows into the hoist way when fire fighters are in operation at a particular floor though we have slope away from lift hoist way opening.

Its unclear what is the intent of the standards specified above. Any ideas ??

Thank you in advance.
