How do I apply for Firewise recognition for my community? I can't see on the site where to get started. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the question! Here's a look at the requirements to becoming a recognized Firewise site:
These requirements can be done in any order, but often times it can be helpful to start by getting in touch with your State Liaison and asking how you can get a wildfire risk assessment. This will give you a better idea of your wildfire risk and some specific actions you can do to reduce that risk. You can find a list of the contact information for each state liaison here.
You can create an account and start your application on the Firewise Portal at anytime. The portal will allow you to save your work and come back to it throughout the year. We have a guide to using the portal along with some helpful training videos available here.
The Firewise toolkit is also a great resource where you can find out more information about participating in the Firewise USA program and reducing your wildfire risk.
