Do metal enclosures require grounding in low voltage DC systems (24vdc)? Is it specifically called out in the code and if so, where.
Grounding of the enclosure is not required specifically where a DC system is less than 60 volts to ground (Article 250, Part VIII). However, I do believe the enclosure is required to be grounded/bonded simply by being classified as non-current-carrying material enclosing electrical conductors or equipment under 250.4(A)(2)&(3).
All conductive enclosures, raceways, etc enclosing energized conductors must be BONDED together in Class I Hazardous Areas reg. Whether the enclosure must have and be bonded to a grounding electrode depends on other factors.
