I have several questions regarding the documentation and clarification of fire hydrant flow testing per NFPA 291.
- When classifying hydrants, is the color coding based on volume of calculated flow or volume at desired pressure (20 psi)?
- The pressure hydrant (static/residual) being tested, are the results recorded from that test for that hydrant?
- If a twenty percent drop in pressure from static to residual is not obtained, will the flow test results be in accurate? How important is it that a twenty percent drop is obtained? Is there a formula or equation that can be used to determine a twenty percent residual pressure from an already identified static pressure?
