I am a licensed plumber working for a hospital in a small town. For years I worked in a much larger city and I was taught PVC piping in a hospital is forbidden due to noxious gases that come from burning PVC pipe. I am looking for the code clarification on this. I know from memory the code says if patients are able to walk out on their own as in an acute care facility, PVC pipe is permitted. However if patients are bedridden and cannot walk out unassisted it is cond=sidered long term care and PVC is forbidden. I am looking for the exact code and wording so I can present it to the powers that be in this facility.
