Will there be online training for this certificate? Will it be offered in other locations other than Quincy?
Thanks for the question Jill -
Based on our work with Boston Fire Department and representatives for the MA State Fire Marshal’s office, the certificate obtained by completing the NFPA Hot Work Safety Awareness training will be the same for both the current Boston Fire Department requirement and the requirement for the State. If you have completed the training and obtained the certificate for Boston then it will be accepted by the State, as well.
We are working with both Boston Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s office to be able to offer the training in either instructor-led or online format and for either format to be accepted as equivalent throughout the State. Final details have not been concluded, but this is the path NFPA is following in working with both the City and State as this program will be expanded state-wide during 2018.
Through NFPA work with the various construction trades in Boston, training has been available through the locals for those members. For non-organized persons needing the training, instructor-led courses are offered in Quincy at NFPA Headquarters. Details are available on the NFPA web page.
We have also worked with several industry associations – Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Contractors (PHCC) and Associated General Contractors of MA (AGCMA) – to train their trainers to offer instructor-led programs. Contact those organizations directly for details on course offerings.
Thank you very much!!
