what is recommended for automatic fire protection of rubbing alcohol in 55gal plastic drums. these are stored a small room.
On should refer to NFPA 30: Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code for the fire protection requirements. If the occupancy classification requires an automatic sprinkler system complying to NFPA 13 throughout the building, the room containing the flammable liquid must be part of the sprinkler system. I don't know why different fire suppression system would be required for storage of alcohol in a health care occupancy.
Please be aware of the International Fire Code's maximum allowable quantity in a control area in addition to NFPA 30 requirements. The Fire Chief in your jurisdiction normally enforces that code. He may require a permit to store it inside the building.
