Pacemakers and Firefighting

Hi,

I am currently 18 years old and attending college to get my associates degree and then pursue a fire science degree and career in firefighting. Theres just one hiccup, I have a pacemaker. I have not had very clear answers on pacemakers, sometimes departments don't worry about it other times they do. I am NOT pacemaker dependent, and I'm in extremely good shape for my age, I had the pacemaker put in when I was 14 as a preventative measure. So I'm wondering is it possible for me to become a firefighter? Do I need to get a specialist to 'clear' me? Im kind of familiar with how some departments have adopted the code and some haven't.

Thank you!
