Separated Occupancy - Means of Egress

Hi All,

In NFPA 101, it is just mentioned that the separated occupancy is a multiple occupancy where the occupancies are separated by fire resistance rated assemblies. However, it does not states that the means of egress is to have an independent means of egress without mixing with other occupancy. However, in the NFPA 101 handbook, it is stated that an occupancy space satisfies all required egress features via two sets of doors that discharge directly outside and provided with fire rated construction to separate from other occupancy so as to meet the separated occupancy concept.

Hence, is it required to have an independent means of egress for a separated occupancy without mixing with other occupancy in addition to the fire rated separation?

Best Regards,

Murali.
